Domtar Inc. has decided to permanently close the company's Cornwall Mill. This decision was made on November 40, 2005 and is effective on or about March 31, 2006.
From your own business perspective, you are aware that making long-term decisions that impact viability of production facilities is very difficult and Domtar's decision did not come easy. The high energy costs, transportation costs, the strength of the Canadian dollar as well as the weak pricing and weak demand have forced this decision upon Domtar. We are extremely proud of our team who have dedicated so much to our past success of our mill, and have worked so diligently toward making our mill competitive. Ultimately it was outside factors, such as those mentioned above, that are outside of local control that led to the decision.
