Alright, back to asbestos country again. 1973 marked the year the King-Beaver miner rescue team won the provincial championship. The following year, in a somewhat ironic twist, all but two of the mine's buildings burned to the ground after a fire broke out. With a drastically cut workforce, mining operations were eventually able to resume, but the mine was never able to fully recover economically. By the early 80s, when the US stopped importing asbestos from Canada, Beaver-King ceased was forced to close for good.
