I recall being able to see this from atop of Silver Peak in Killarney Provincial Park, but I could be wrong, as that was a long time ago...

is the security really lax around there? or were you escorted? i'd really like to see this place in person, would make for a great little weekend trip up from ithaca ny.

I know that the photographer Edward Burtynsky, who took a series of photographs in this same general area, asked the CEO of the company for permission to shoot. That wasn't really an option for us amateurs so we had to take the alternate route. This is not something I'd recommend doing, especially if your goal is to go in and take pictures. I doubt they'd be very cool with that.

All that being said, there is quite a lot to see just from the public areas and I'm sure they do offer tours for the mine shown in this picture and some of the other industrial things around town, so it still might be worth the drive up sometime.
