Sort of like the flux-capacator in TPC. Great find

Of course I was wondering!
In fact, I´m wondering what the hell is a mercury vapour rectifier. Wikipedia here I go!

Wow, excellent picture. I took Smart's advise and looked it up (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury_arc_valve) your picture is better.

When it was lit ( four of them were lit until few months ago) it felt like being in a science fiction "B" movie...glowing blue, with the shiny mercury bubbling with sparks, making a weird buzzing sound mixed with the gentle swoosh-swoosh of the fan rotating under it ..a very well rendered Dr Caligari atmosphere..!

When we were there at Opex in 05 the bastards where turned on. Id seen them before in Sydneys old Power Stations, but never operational. I got pics, but havent devvied em yet.
