Northbound

For the past couple of evenings I've been trying to plan things out for a trip up to the moon (aka Sudbury, Ontario) this upcoming holiday weekend. Yep. Kendall and myself are heading back to the good old INCO nickel tailing ponds, and hopefully this time we'll have some better light to work with. Last time it was fairly overcast and we only really had a half hour or so of what I'd consider to be good light.
The rest of our time will probably be spent seeking out any decommissioned mines in and around the general area. I've been scouring the internet trying to figure out which ones are still active and which ones aren't. The problem is that a lot of these places seem to have go in and out of production based on global demands or metallurgical discoveries. They also tend to be clustered together with a slew of other mines making it difficult to pinpoint the one you're looking for on a map. I have good set of hi-res aerial photos to work from but it looks as though they were taken over a decade ago and I'm pretty sure a lot has changed since then. There's a good chance a lot of things have been completely demolished.
Anyways, I'm hoping to get into something of a decent size that's still relatively intact. Course, I might just have to settle for piddly little ruins or something. We'll see. If anything, it'll be nice to get away up North if only for a few days. Nothing like a barren landscape to help clear the ol' mind.

If you send me a google map location for a prospective site, I'll check at work to see if I have more recent highres aerials.
